Harrington Park HSA Committees
The Harrington Park Home and School Association (HPHSA) is a non-profit, fundraising organization that includes parents, teachers and administrators. Our goal is to support and enhance the work of school staff and the Board of Education in providing an enriched school experience for our children. The HSA relies entirely on volunteers to plan, run and raise the funding that makes it all possible.
Below are the committees and volunteer roles for this school year. To join one, use the volunteer sign-up. An active HSA membership is required to sign up.
Grade-Level Events
K and 1st Grade Bingo Night
Organize Bingo Night for Kindergarten and 1st Grade, including advertising, ticket sales, food, drinks and prizes, and coordinate the APR layout and start and end times with Mrs. Dell'Aquila. This is an all-family event.
1st Grade Love Your Lunch
A KPA-organized program in honor of AAPI Heritage Month. 1st graders read stories about loving their lunches, draw and share what they eat, try foods from Asian cultures and create a recipe book of family favorites.
2nd Grade Game Night
Plan a game night for 2nd graders in the APR with a rotation of age-appropriate games. Coordinate snacks, drinks and ticket sales, and share APR setup needs and start and end times with Mrs. Dell'Aquila for the custodial staff. Organize volunteer roles with clear direction and advance notice, including sign-in, ticket pickup and sign-out procedures for drop-off and pickup.
3rd Grade Game Night
Plan a game night for 3rd graders in the APR, with the same responsibilities as 2nd Grade Game Night: games, snacks, drinks, ticket sales, APR setup and clear drop-off and pickup procedures.
3rd Grade Senior Share Day
3rd graders invite a special senior in their lives (a grandparent, senior family member or family friend) to a breakfast and activities at school. Responsibilities include ordering breakfast, choosing a theme, working with the art teacher on the stage backdrop, decorating tables in the APR and helping the morning of the event.
4th Grade Movie Under the Stars
Plan an outdoor movie night for 4th graders, starting with a movie selection (surveying the students is recommended). Work with the school tech department on the screen and projector, and handle ticket sales, advertising, snacks, drinks and cleanup.
5th Grade Dance
Help plan the 5th graders' first school dance, including supplies and coordinating volunteers for the night.
6th Grade Halloween Dance and Winter Social
Plan two social events for 6th grade. For the Halloween costume dance, chairs hire a DJ and arrange volunteers for the haunted hallway. For the winter social, chairs survey students on what they would like to do, either an off-campus outing or a social at school.
7th Grade Socials
Plan two social events for 7th grade: a social that can be held off-site and a dance at school. Survey students so they have a say in the activity, organize volunteers, coordinate the cash box and checks with the HSA Treasurer, organize food concessions and coordinate with the DJ.
Fundraisers and School-Wide Events
Book Fair
Help organize and set up the fall Book Fair. One- to two-hour shifts are available.
Book Bonanza
Held every year on Read Across America Day. Books are purchased through family donations and dedicated to the school library in each student's name.
Fall Mums Sale
Help with the online mum sale, and hand out and sell extra mums at the Farmer's Market at Hoelscher Field.
Holiday Gift Shop
Provides gifts for students to buy for family and friends before the winter holidays.
Mother's Day Plant Sale
A plant sale after the last frost. Students can buy potted and hanging plants to take home to celebrate Mom.
Gala
Plan the HSA Gala fundraiser, including ticket sales, DJ, donations, raffles, prizes, setup and cleanup.
Color Run
Plan the Color Run and manage vendor and volunteer coordination.
Talent Show
Organize the school Talent Show: promote it, encourage participation, run auditions and plan the program, including rehearsals and stage management.
Picture Day
Help oversee and coordinate groups by grade on Picture Day and retake day.
Clothing Drive
Stay at the school to receive donated clothing and wait for the donation truck. There is a clothing drive in the fall and one in the spring.
General Fundraising Volunteer
Be an extra hand we can reach out to when we need more volunteers for fundraising events, lunch teams and more.
Enrichment
After School Enrichment
Work with iCAMP to choose the educational and recreational after-school classes offered from September to June. iCAMP runs the logistics.
Author, Author
A Pre-K to 8th grade program that brings popular children's authors and illustrators to the school. Each visit includes an assembly, book signing and in-class visits.
Cultural Arts Enrichment Committee
A week-long program that exposes Pre-K to 8th grade students to a broad range of art and artists from world cultures. Work with the school administration to design the week, including assemblies in professional dance, theater and music, and schedule them with the Principal.
Science Enrichment Programs
Work with teachers to add to the science curriculum with extras such as the Buehler Science Center and the Franklin Institute. Twice a year, select assemblies and plan the schedule with the Principal.
Earth Awareness
Lead environmental awareness at the school, whether through recycling, reducing food waste, creating green spaces or a climate awareness program. Projects can run through the year or during Earth Week in April.
Lunch Program
Lunch Program Volunteer Coordinator
Schedule the Monday to Friday lunch teams for the school year (schedules are set in September) and check in with the daily captains.
Lunch Program Captains
Lead a lunch team one day a month. A team is a captain and three or four servers.
Lunch Program Servers
Serve lunch in the APR one day a month, 11:15am to 1:30pm. A Korean-speaking parent is on lunch duty every Tuesday and Thursday to help with communication.
Kindergarten Lunch Coordinator
Organize the Kindergarten lunch server schedule and send it by email once a month.
Kindergarten Lunch Servers
For Kindergarten families only. Bring lunches from the APR to Kindergarten classrooms. With enough volunteers, it is about twice a month for 15 minutes, and you get to visit your child in school.
KPA
KPA
A parent network that fosters a supportive community for Korean families, improves communication between parents and the school, and promotes cultural understanding.
Lunar New Year
A KPA social event for parents to share Korean food and play traditional Korean New Year games.
Korean Food Sales
KPA fundraisers offering Korean food delivered directly to Harrington Park, four times during the school year.
HSA Operations
HSA Technology
Keep the HSA website up to date, including the calendar, events and notices, and support online registration and payments for HSA events. Also collect student directory information through class parents.
Hospitality/Newcomers
Organize the HSA luncheon for school staff the day before school opens, the Welcome Breakfast for new parents on the first day of school, and Teacher Appreciation Week in May.
Spirit Wear
Help sort and distribute Harrington Park spirit wear when orders arrive.
Class Parents (Kindergarten to 7th Grade)
Class parents help teachers with parties and field trips and provide crafts, games and snacks during the year. In 6th and 7th grade, class parents help with supplies for parties and field trips. All class parent assignments are subject to approval by the school administration. Chairing and volunteering for current HSA programs is encouraged and is considered during class parent selection.
If you have twins or children in the same grade, note it on the sign-up and the HSA secretary will contact you. To request a specific child's class, email harringtonparkschoolhsa@gmail.com with your first and second choice.

HSA Member Dues
We at the HPHSA rely on funds from the community to help support our fundraising events and school programs; such as Art and Science enrichment. Membership dues contribute towards providing the children with items such as smart boards in the classrooms, classroom libraries, art room and library renovations, student social activities, enrichment programs, as well as the ability to subsidize lunch programs.
